Activities
There are many things to see and do during your stay in St. John's but our favourite activity is food! So be sure to drop down to our onsite restaurant and bar to say hello and to grab a drink or a bite as you start making your plans.
All of the suggested downtown activities are within walking distance of The Duckworth. To help plan your vacation, www.destinationstjohns.com is a great site to start. In addition to Destination St. John's, may we suggest the following activities:
Happy Hour!
Who doesn't like Happy Hour? Every evening until 7pm, our onsite restaurant Magnum & Steins offers select $6 Martinis, Wine, Prosecco and Quidi Vidi beer. Hungry? We also have an $8 bites menu. (Prices subject to change without notice).
Enjoy the surrounding night life.
Plan an evening on the town by treating yourself to a dinner at our onsite restaurant and wine bar where we feature fresh local Newfoundland seafood among many other locally sourced food ingredients. What wine would go best with your dish? Ask us! We have 22 wines by the glass so you are sure to find the perfect pairing. After that, head on down to George Street where you can choose to dance the night away or to pop into a bar to sing along with our local talent. After all, they are pretty good!
Signal Hill
The base of Signal Hill is a 10-15 minute walk from our hotel. Many of our guests take a taxi to the top of the hill then explore the walking trails back to the bottom.
Want to live up the Night Life?
George Street is a small two block long street located only a 5-10 minute walk from our hotel, that houses nothing but bars, pubs and restaurants for your entertainment and enjoyment.
Republic of Doyle fan?
If you are, then our cozy little spot is the place to stay. We are located next to The Duke of Duckworth where filming for the show has taken place. If you stay with us on a Sunday, you may catch a glimpse of the filming, as Sunday is the day of the week the show films downtown.
Want to chase some whales? Spot some icebergs?
Located two blocks behind The Duckworth is the St. John's harbour. Here you will find local daily boat tours only a five minute walk away.
Are you a history buff?
The Rooms is located two blocks uphill from The Duckworth. The Rooms is a provincial art gallery as well as a museum where you are sure to learn a history lesson or two! Visit www.therooms.ca for more information.
Do you love to sight see?
In addition to Signal Hill, Quidi Vidi Village is a must see. Just a $10-$15 cab ride from The Duckworth and you will experience a charming and scenic fishing village that is easy to explore by foot. Ask the cabbie to drop you off at The Quidi Vidi Village Plantation to start your walking tour. The plantation is a craft enterprise standing on its own wharf. There is a stunning view standing on this wharf looking out over Quidi Vidi Village. From there you can see the Quidi Vidi Brewery which brews local beer and offers beer tastings. If you looking for a great hiking experience, the hills surrounding Quidi Vidi make a great hike. What to do the next day? Head on out to Cape Spear. No visit to St. John's is complete without going to the most easterly point in North America! There are day tour operators that will pick you up at our hotel and return you at the end of tour. Once such tour is www.annstours.ca and the City of St. John's now operates a bus which can take you there.
